Our Story

 

As the visionary, culture director and creative force, I aim to preserve Cuban traditions through our food, coffee and experience blending abuela’s kitchen with timeless design.

I want to build restaurants in repurposed buildings that hold historical significance to their neighborhoods.  Our vision for aesthetics aligns with preserving tradition—Respect the past, Embrace the Future.

Our company is ethical and is always striving to present our tradition in better settings, with better practices and better resources. Our story is about curating and preserving ‘Mi Abuelas Cocina’ responsibly.

Since my grandparents left after the revolution, Cuba has faced challenging times and many forced changes. Many Cubans, including my family, settled in Miami and were among the lead contributors to the city’s massive growth. Many wonder how such a small island produced a group of people who would end up having such an oversized influence on a region and country, but for us we know it’s simple, it boils down to the fact that failure was simply not an option

My grandparents lost everything to a dictatorship, but they worked tirelessly to build a new foundation for our family in this country and never once looked back. In the 60s, Miami Cuban cafes with their ventanitas, Cuban sandwiches, and platos fuertes kept our traditions alive, proving that our culture was resilient and enduring.

The “ventanita” culture took-off and became the gathering spot for the exile community to gather and discuss what life was like back on the island and also on how they could support one another in their new home - America. Much has changed, and Cuban-Americans have adapted, but many traditions and stories
have faded. Ventanitas have aged, and Cuban restaurants haven’t really modernized.

At Black Bean Deli, we aim to preserve these traditions in a contemporary setting, perfecting my grandmother's cocina through offerings like café con leche y pan tostado, empanadas, bistec, yuca frita, sopa de pollo, and more
